There is a kind of silence that comes just before thunder-heavy, suffocating, deceptive. The kind that swells in a man's chest before it explodes into fire.
That was the silence in Sahastra Tripathi's heart.
Months ago, he had defied his father. Walked away from a life of privilege, power, and politics-for love. For Sparshika. But life has a cruel way of rewarding those who love too deeply.
Because what awaited him behind the walls of his own house wasn't peace-it was betrayal. She wasn't Sparshika, she was Urvi.
She been waiting to confess, but confession came too late.
"Kya hua, Urvi? Apna naam bhool gayi thi ya mujhe bewakoof samajh baithi thi?"
["What happened, Urvi? Did you forget your own name or did you just think I was a fool?"]
"Main... main sab bataane wali thi-"
["I... I was going to tell you everything-"]
He moved.
Two long strides.
And his hand was in her hair.
Before she could react-
CRASH!
Her head was slammed into the edge of the kitchen counter.
Plates and cutlery flew in every direction.
"AHHH!" she cried out, collapsing to the floor, blood instantly blooming from a deep gash on her forehead.
She whimpered, holding her head. "Sahastra ji!"
But he wasn't listening.
He was past the point of listening.
He yanked her back up by her hair.
SLAP!
A brutal one across her cheek.
She crashed to the floor again.
Blood now trickled from her lips.
"Mat maariye... Sahastra ji please!"
["Don't hit me... Sahastra ji please!"]
But he was already walking toward her.
He stepped on her cheek with his shoe-pressing it against her soft skin, grinding it into the cold marble floor.
“You whore! How dare you?"
"I...I can expla..."
His voice trembled with rage.
"You lied to me... about everything!"
He pressed harder.
"Your name, your past, your love... all of it was a lie!"
She shook her head desperately under his foot.
"Nahi... please... main aapse pyaar karti hoon!"
["No... please... I love you!"]
He scoffed, lifting his foot, only to crouch beside her.
He grabbed her face in his hand, his eyes inches from hers-eyes filled with unspeakable pain.
"Mere papa maut ke kareeb the... sirf teri wajah se." [" My father was on the brink of dying...only because of you."]
Urvi's eyes widened in genuine shock when Sahastra mentioned his father's condition. "What?" she whispered, stunned.
But that look-that look of surprise-only poured fuel on Sahastra's raging fire. He saw her reaction not as concern, but as a facade. Pretence. Another lie.
His jaw clenched. "Ab bhi acting kar rahi hai tu ?" ["Still pretending?"] he hissed, and before he could stop himself, his hand flew again-another sharp slap sent her crashing to the floor. She winced, her tears flowing freely.
"Mujhe... mujhe sach mein nahi pata..." ["I really don't know..."] she sobbed.
But he didn't let her finish.
In one swift motion, he stormed toward her, lifted her off the ground, and threw her over his shoulder. She struggled, crying, but his grip was unrelenting.
He stormed into the bedroom and threw her onto the bed. Urvi barely caught her breath before Sahastra grabbed her wrists and tied them to the bedposts with his belt-fast, practiced, furious. She trembled, confused and terrified.
He grabbed her jaw tightly, forcing her to look into his eyes-eyes burning with betrayal, pain, and something far darker.
"Bohut khush hogi na tu?" he growled. ["You must be very happy, right?"]
"Tere wajah se aaj mere papa is haalat mein hain." ["Because of you, my father is in this state."]
"Tu hi thi jisne unka location diya tha, hai na?" ["You were the one who gave away his location, right?"]
"Par afsos... mere papa bach gaye." ["Too bad... my father survived."]
"But the damage is done. He will not be able to walk now."
"Jab wo nahi chal sakte... to tu kyun chale?" ["If he can't walk... then why should you?"]
His pain had turned into fury.
The betrayal had carved something inhuman inside him.
He stood, towering over her broken form.
Urvi sobbed, bleeding and gasping, the taste of blood and fear in her mouth.
Sahastra's voice was now a whisper of thunder.
"Yeh sirf shuruaat hai, Urvi. Ab main tujhe tabah karunga. Jaise tu ne mere saath kiya, waise hi... lekin usse bhi bura."
["This is just the beginning, Urvi. Now I will destroy you. Just like you destroyed me... only worse."]
Before Urvi could even process what he was saying, Sahastra's eyes landed on Urvi's feet.
Soft. Delicate.
Without blinking, he grabbed her foot-and twisted it.
Crack.
Urvi let out a gasp. "Nahi! Ahh!" ["No!Ahh!"] she cried, instinctively trying to get up despite her restraints.
"Aur cheekh sali, tere cheekhein sun ke mujhe sukoon mil raha hain."
["Scream bitch, scream. Your screams are giving me solace."]
Before she could recover from the pain, he grabbed her another foot. He twisted the other foot in the same cold, calculated way.
But he didn't snap it. No-he stopped right before the breaking point. "Main yeh tod sakta hoon... par todunga nahi. Abhi nahi." ["I can break this... but I won't. Not yet."]
"Todunga, tujhe aur tere taange dono ko todunga, lekin dheere dheere" ["I will break, I will break, both you and your legs not now but gradually."]
"Kyuki jaise mere papa chal nahi sakte ab... tu bhi nahi chalegi," he muttered under his breath. ["Because just like my father can't walk anymore... you won't either."]
With that Sahastra walked out, slamming the door behind.
Leaving behind silence.
And a woman who could no longer tell if her body hurt more-or her heart.
